The Web Design Strategy
We recently completed a new website redesign for an Italian restaurant chain in Maryland called Mamma Lucia. The Chief Operating Officer (COO) contacted us because he felt like the old site was outdated and in need of a fresh rebrand. Our goal for the Italian restaurant website design was to restructure the layout with a clean design that reflected the company’s brand. Also since the restaurant has 6 locations (Bethesda, College Park, Fallsgrove, Olney, Rockville and Silver Spring), we needed to make it easy to find and order from each location.
The first move in our redesign process was to move the website to a new website hosting company that was faster, reliable and more secure. We also added a Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificate for a more secure connection between visitors and the website. Additionally we laid the ground work for a content delivery network, to help with the ongoing evolution of the website and loading time.
Italian Restaurant Website Design
Once we established the foundation of the website with premium hosting, we built out the framework and customized a premium website design. The focus of the website is to drive visitors to the menu as well as easy online ordering. We used a white background for a clean look, as well as for easy reading of text. This also paired well with the restaurants color palette to provide an appealing contrast of colors.
The main menu structure was important in our overall design. We made the menu easy to use with a focus on making all pages one click away. To do this we consolidated pages to focus on what we thought would satisfy the visitors intent while accessing the website.
Images were important to the design strategy in order to communicate the menu visually to customers. We designed a responsive homepage slideshow to feature some of the popular dishes at Mamma Lucia. We also strategically selected images for individual detail pages that specifically represented the content of those pages.
Finally we updated and added new contact forms to the website. We created unique contact forms based on the page type and directed each one to different members of the company. Forms were design to collect as much information as possible, to help management gather enough info to reduce the number of correspondents needed, on pages like the catering order form.
Web Design Recap
The owners of the restaurant was extremely happy with the results of the Italian restaurant website design. We noticed an increase number of engagements and time spent on the website within the first month. After launching the website, Mamma Lucia signed up for the monthly social media marketing plan to make sure their online marketing would be consistent with their website brand and to increase their visibility online.
